Beatlemania

Acrylic, 20"x20"

inspiration

This piece was created specifically for Fab Fest, a Beatles inspired two day festival here in Charlotte.

I was inspired by the Beatles first appearance on the The Ed Sullivan Show. Since this was their first US television performance, it is a significant moment in their career as well as in pop culture as whole. I wanted to depict a young girl in the 60s watching the performance, as well as foreshadow their Blue and Red complication albums that came out after the band had broken up. I wanted to transport the viewer back in time as well as show them the cultural significance the band had and still has on music today.

I grew up listening to the Beatles. My mom would pick me up from elementary school and had the CD for the Blu album on repeat every day. I could sing all the words by the time I was 10. I loved drawing ever since I was a kid, and I grew an octopus’s garden.

Once I heard this festival was having an art contest, I knew I had to participate.

The Beatles hold a special place in my heart, it was my first love when it came to music.

I ended up winning 3rd place for the Amateur category in the art show, which I am very proud of.
