Magic Answers

Why do we turn to other things to find answers? When we shake a Magic 8 Ball, are we wishing for a specific answer to the question we ask it? Do we do the same things with people? Are we constantly mentally shaking someone as we wait for them to answer in a specific way that will be in our favor?

Sometimes we have many questions running through our minds, some we can never get a straight answer to. Or sometimes we get an answer we don’t like or weren't expecting. 

I wanted to depict the anxiety between asking a question and receiving the answer. All the things that run through our heads when we ask someone a difficult question. 

A Magic 8 Ball has a 20-sided die, also called a d20, inside it. 10 positive answers, 5 negative, and 5 neutral. Guess the inventor was more of an optimist. 

This piece is also heavily influenced by Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans piece.
