This piece is an interpretation of Pablo Picasso’s The Old Guitarist.
In Picasso's piece, he depicts an elderly, blind man with a guitar. In my version, it is a young woman sitting with her guitar and her head hanging low.
There is a lot to be said about Picasso’s blue period. It's his artistic period that solely includes shades of blue and depictions of poverty, depression, and human suffering.

I often find myself turning to music whenever I’m feeling “blue,” maybe that’s why Picasso’s piece resonates with me so much. It is one of my favorites of his, and I was lucky enough to see it in person at The Art Institute of Chicago a few years back. I love playing guitar in my spare time; it's another artistic outlet for me outside of painting and making art. I see myself in his painting and I wanted to actually put myself in that world with this piece.

We must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps"
